The Australian Australorp is a highly regarded heritage chicken known for its exceptional egg-laying ability, calm temperament, and hardiness. Originally developed in Australia, this breed is famous for producing 250–300+ rich brown eggs per year during their peak laying years, while remaining a robust, dual-purpose bird suitable for both eggs and meat. Australorps are quiet, friendly, and easy to handle, making them ideal for backyard keepers, families, and small farms alike. They adapt well to a wide range of climates, forage efficiently and living for 6–10 years. Many Australorps continue laying reliably until around 5–6 years of age and may still produce occasional eggs beyond that.
